In an emergency you may be stuck at home for three days or more. Figure out what supplies you will need to stay safe and comfortable.

Your home is already full of emergency items that doubles as everyday things. You probably even have most of things you need already. You don’t have to have them all in one place, as long as you know where they are and you can find them in hurry or in the dark.

Don't forget that you and your neighbours can help each other by sharing supplies too.

  • Water for three days or more- make sure you have at least 9 litres of water for every person per day. This will be enough for drinking and basic hygiene
  • Food for three days or more. Ideally keep your pantry as full as you can. Consider long lasting food that doesn’t need cooking (unless you have a camping stove or barbecue). Include food for babies and pets too.
  • Medicines and copies of prescriptions (names/dosage).
  • USB chargers and/or portable charging devices
  • Torch and batteries. Battery powered lighting is the safest and easiest.
  • A solar- or battery-powered radio (or your car radio to stay informed
  • Dust masks (rated P2 or N95) and work gloves
  • Toilet paper and large plastic buckets for emergency toilet
  • Cash in case there is power outage and ATM machines and EFTPOS are affected
