Emergency Relief Centres
If you need to leave your home for safety reasons, can’t get home or are asked to evacuate, the easiest place to go is to friends or whānau/family if possible.
If that isn’t an option, we have opened five Civil Defence Centres (CDCs) in the wider Auckland region from 9pm, Saturday night, to provide temporary shelter and a place for people to go during Cyclone Vaianu if needed:
- Ostend Hall, Waiheke Island - Belgium Street, Ostend, Waiheke Island
- Wellford Community Centre - 1 Matheson Road, Wellsford
- Shoesmith Hall - Shoesmith Street and Brown Road, Warkworth
- Helensville War Memorial Hall, 2 Porter Crescent Helensville (jointly operated with the local Community Response Group)
- Ellen Melville Centre, 2 Freyberg Place Auckland
The map will be updated during a Civil Defence Emergency with the locations and opening hours of centres that are open. Always check the latest status before you visit.
These centres will provide shelter, light snacks, and some basic sleeping arrangements.
- Please bring warm clothing and essential items like medicines, baby and children’s items and special food you may need.
- All Civil Defence Centres are wheelchair accessible.
A small number of pets can be accommodated (cats must be in cages and dogs on a lead) and please bring their food and supplies. If you have friends or whānau that can look after your pets, please consider this first – Civil Defence Centres can be busy places, with limited space, and your pet may be more comfortable being looked after elsewhere.
